Wanted sex offender found dead in Picayune

PICAYUNE – Authorities said a sex offender wanted on a rape charge in Picayune has been found dead in a vehicle.

Pearl River County Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the body of Johnny Washington, 50, was found Wednesday night in Picayune.

Police Chief Bryan Dawsey said the rape for which Washington was being sought allegedly involved a 14-year-old girl.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the department received a call from family members, who found Washington in the vehicle. Tucker said the vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle wanted by the Picayune Police Department.

Patrol deputies and investigators arrived on the scene where they determined Washington had been deceased for some time.

County Coroner Derek Turnage said it appeared Washington had been dead for three or four days. A toxicology report is expected to be able to determine the cause and manner of death, Turnage said.

Former NC teacher implicated in sexual abuse commits suicide

6-16-2014 North Carolina:

DURHAM — A former teacher accused of sexual abuse decades ago at Carolina Friends School has committed suicide, the school said in an email Monday to alumni, parents and staff.

The former teacher, Charles William “Bill” Butcher, 71, died Thursday in West Jefferson. His death came a day after the school emailed a letter naming Butcher and a former principal who were suspects but not criminally charged.

Five former students, all male, had alleged that they were fondled by a former principal during a six-year period from 1969 to 1975. One of the five also said he was inappropriately touched by a former teacher, identified as Butcher, in 1976. The allegations were reported by former students in the fall of 2012.

The school had hired child and sexual abuse experts and reported the allegations to law enforcement in Orange County, where the school is located. The actions would have been misdemeanors and thus could not have been prosecuted decades later, the school had said.

Sebastian County Inmate Dies After Suicide Attempt

7-3-2014 Arkansas:

A Fort Smith sex offender who attempted suicide June 25 at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center died two days later in a local hospital.

Marcus Tucker, 29, died June 27 at Sparks Regional Medical Center. He had been admitted in critical condition leading up to his death, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

On June 25, Tucker had just returned from a 9 a.m. Circuit Court appearance in which he had pleaded not guilty to rape. Deputies went to Tucker’s cell about 10 a.m. to serve him a protection order when they found him in the act of harming himself, according to a news release from Lt. Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and detention center medical personnel immediately began life-saving procedures on Tucker, and Fort Smith firefighters and EMS responded to the scene, the release states.

Tucker was taken to Sparks, where he died two days later.

The Sheriff’s Office began an internal investigation in reference to policy matters regarding the incident, Pevehouse stated in the release.

An Arkansas State Police investigation is active, according to state police spokesman Bill Sadler.

“Upon completion of the case file, it will be submitted to the sheriff and prosecutor for consideration,” he said Thursday.

On June 21, Fort Smith police arrested Tucker on suspicion of rape. Authorities placed a parole violation on his booking and issued a petition to revoke a suspended sentence on June 23, according to the release.

Tucker previously was convicted of Internet stalking of a child in Crawford County in February 2012 and fourth-degree sexual abuse in Sebastian County in March 2012, according to court documents.

He was sentenced to six years in prison plus 10 years suspended on the Crawford County charge and six years in prison on the Sebastian County charge. The sentences ran concurrently. Tucker was released from prison this spring, according to court documents. ..Source.. by Stacy Ryburn

State ferry worker, sex offender found dead in jail

7-12-2014 Washington:

A convicted sex offender who was caught taking photos of young girls while working on a Washington state ferry was found dead in his jail cell Saturday, the result of an apparent suicide.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that staff at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac found 50-year-old Steven Allen Dailey in his cell, unresponsive. The staff tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel who responded.

A prison spokesman said foul play is not suspected and that the FBI is investigating it as an apparent suicide.

Dailey was taken into custody after a passenger spotted him taking photos of young girls July 3 on the Tillicum ferry, which runs from West Seattle to Vashon Island and Port Orchard. The passenger reported it to staff, who contacted police.

Dailey had been convicted of possessing child pornography in 2009. Federal court records state he had been caught taking part in a peer-to-peer child porn site. They found more than 500 images and 78 videos in his possession, some of them so graphic in nature, that he was given 10 years probation, which federal prosecutors say is unusually long.

Rev C David Hess (The Parson)

March 2014:

It is important to remember Rev. C. David Hess, a personal friend, someone I have known for many years. In my normal way of recording deaths of Advocates I am very timely, but for David I have had a problem every time I think of his passing, but today I am recording him as I have others.

OnceFallen has a wonderful article touching on many of the wonderful things accomplished by David, as does USA Fair and folks can read about them there.

For now I'll just remember David and our wonderful talks. At some point in the future I may return and add more but for now the passing of that era is still fresh in my mind.
